New legal developments have emerged in the case of a Canadian national accused of abducting and torturing a bird from a famous Las Vegas Strip wildlife habitat. Mitchell Fairbarn aged 33 now faces four counts of animal cruelty following a March 3 incident at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Law enforcement officials released updated details this week describing a violent encounter that has shocked the local community and tourists alike.

According to police reports and recently released emergency audio security personnel were alerted after witnesses saw a man carrying a live flamingo through the resort’s interior hallways. Upon further investigation staff discovered that one bird was missing from the enclosure and two others had sustained significant physical trauma. Investigators believe the suspect jumped a fence to gain access to the protected area before fleeing with the animal.

The victimized bird which has been identified by habitat staff as Peachy was reportedly subjected to severe physical abuse during the abduction. Fairbarn was apprehended by officers shortly after the incident was reported and remains in custody. The Flamingo’s wildlife habitat which has operated for decades as a sanctuary for exotic species has faced increased security scrutiny following the breach. The case continues to move through the Clark County court system as prosecutors seek justice for the injuries inflicted on the animals.
