LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – According to an arrest record, a Las Vegas valley school teacher was detained on suspicion of exchanging and having child pornography.
Alexander Derringer was arrested on November 9 and has since been charged with 12 counts of possessing and distributing child pornography files. There was no booking photo available right away.
Henderson Police stated in an arrest record that they received information from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police last year regarding an investigation into the internet distribution of child sex abuse materials.
Police discovered hundreds of files were posted to the messaging app Kik, and the upload was discovered to be in the Las Vegas region.
Investigators secured a search order for electronic documents and connected them to Derringer’s residence, where he was identified as an elementary school teacher in October of last year.
According to the arrest report, when detectives visited with Derringer at Farren Elementary School, he acknowledged to using Kik to talk with individuals but stated that he does not look at or have child pornography.
Derringer was hired in November 2015 and will leave his post in December 2021, according to the Clark County School District.
In their report, police stated that they obtained a search warrant for his residence and discovered six cell phones and a tablet. Derringer was reportedly the user of accounts that shared child sex abuse files, according to a forensic examination of the devices.
According to the article, authorities discovered Derringer had accepted a new position at Coral Academy Cadence, where he was arrested.
Regarding Derringer’s arrest, Coral Academy issued the following statement:
On November 1, 2022, Alexander Derringer’s contract with Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas (“CASLV”) began. Mr. Derringer was arrested by Henderson Police Department detectives on November 9th, 2022, and his contract was terminated the same day. When CASLV recruited him, he had a valid Nevada teaching license, which meant he had passed a state and federal criminal and civil background check. As an added precaution, CASLV did its own background and reference check. We have no more information since this is an ongoing criminal investigation.
Last Monday, a criminal complaint was filed in Henderson Justice Court, formally accusing Derringer. A preliminary hearing is set for January 30.
