Southern Nevada to Welcome First Freestanding Children’s Hospital

Las Vegas, NV—Intermountain Health has announced plans to build the state’s first dedicated children’s hospital in the city’s southwest area. The facility will be situated within UNLV’s Harry Reid Research and Technology Park.

“Intermountain Health understands that access to comprehensive, subspecialty care for children near their homes significantly alleviates the burden on families facing emotional and physical challenges,” stated Mitch Cloward, President of Intermountain Health’s Desert Region, encompassing southern Nevada and southwest Utah. “We express our gratitude to pediatricians, caregivers, existing hospitals, and other organizations who have tirelessly dedicated themselves to caring for our children for years. It’s an honor to collaborate with them in advancing pediatric healthcare in our community.”

According to a report by Umbach, the 150-bed children’s hospital is projected to cost $1 billion in construction, create nearly 12,000 jobs, and generate $58.2 million in state and local taxes over a five-year period.

This new facility will also address a critical shortage in the area’s pediatric healthcare providers. Currently, Nevada has only 271 pediatricians serving a population of 640,000 children under 18 years old. Notably, Southern Nevada holds the distinction of being the largest metropolitan region in the United States without a standalone children’s hospital.

Construction is anticipated to be finalized by 2030.
