A 19-year-old Las Vegas man is facing serious charges after a 12-car collision in the northwest valley that claimed two lives.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of West Cheyenne Avenue and North Jones Boulevard. Officers say the driver, identified as Jose Gutierrez, was traveling eastbound on Cheyenne at a high rate of speed when he struck multiple vehicles stopped at a red light.
Two people died at the scene—one a 20-year-old female passenger in Gutierrez’s car and the other a 38-year-old male driver from another vehicle.
Several others were injured and taken to the hospital, including one individual in critical condition.
Gutierrez was transported to the hospital and later booked in absentia on four counts of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities continue to gather evidence.
