TikTok’s Biggest Star Ousted for Border Rules Violation—No One Is Above the Law

In a reminder that even global celebrities are not exempt from immigration rules, Khaby Lame—best known as the most-followed influencer on TikTok—voluntarily exited the U.S. after authorities at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas confirmed he had overstayed his visa. Lame, who entered on April 30 with a temporary visa to attend the Met Gala, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on June 6 for violating the terms of his stay  . Instead of resisting, he chose “voluntary departure,” a process outlined by ICE that avoids formal deportation but still removes the violator from the country  .

Critics on the left may view this as harsh enforcement, but the rule of law governs us all—especially in matters of opening or closing our borders. Overstaying a visa should carry consequences, regardless of fame or fortune. Lame’s quick departure shows that accountability still matters under the law.

Puerto Rico-born agent Bo Loudon reportedly tipped off authorities, and while that’s stirred controversy among those who see it as xenophobic, the fundamental truth remains: no one is immune simply because they’re popular or engaging online. Lame reportedly shared his location in Brazil shortly after departure, suggesting a swift compliance  .

In an era where celebrity often trumps substance, this incident underscores a key American value: respect for our immigration process and personal responsibility. If we want secure borders and fair treatment, fame must not shield individuals from the consequences of overstaying visas. What happens on hair-raising TikTok videos doesn’t exempt anyone from obeying U.S. laws.
