Trump Pledges to Protect Hardworking Americans: ‘No Tax on Tips, 100% Yours

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, January 26, 2025 12:57 pm

President Donald Trump delivered a fiery and policy-focused speech in Las Vegas on Saturday, addressing hardworking Americans and emphasizing his administration’s commitment to economic freedom and personal responsibility. Speaking from the Circa Resort and Casino, Trump reaffirmed a key 2024 campaign promise—ending taxes on tips for millions of American workers.

“Any worker who relies on tips as income, your tips will be 100% yours,” Trump declared to an enthusiastic crowd of hospitality workers and Nevada supporters.

The “no tax on tips” policy is set to benefit over 4 million workers nationwide, including an estimated 700,000 single moms who rely heavily on tip income. In Nevada alone, Trump highlighted that a quarter of restaurant workers’ pay comes from tips. He directly engaged with Governor Joe Lombardo during his speech, asking how impactful this policy had been in the November election—a historic victory for Trump in a state that typically leans blue.

“When I think of Biden, I think of incompetence and inflation,” Trump stated, drawing sharp contrasts between his administration and the challenges Americans faced under the previous leadership. He directly called out how inflation disproportionately affected hospitality workers in Nevada, a key industry hit hard by what he termed “the ravages of the Biden economy.”

Delivering on Promises

Trump used the opportunity to highlight other campaign promises already fulfilled in the early days of his second term. From withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO) to dismantling federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices, the president doubled down on his commitment to cutting through “woke nonsense.”

“We got rid of the woke crap,” Trump said, earning roaring applause from the audience. “These companies were petrified of it. And now, we’re putting America first again.”

In another sweeping move, Trump froze hiring within the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on his first day back in office. He criticized the IRS for its plans to hire 88,000 new agents, stating that his administration is developing a plan to “terminate all of them or move them to the border.”

A Thank-You Tour

The event in Las Vegas is part of Trump’s broader effort to thank voters in battleground states that played a decisive role in his reelection. Nevada, a state that has historically favored Democrats, flipped in 2024, signaling a significant shift in voter sentiment.

“I’m going to Nevada to thank them for the vote because we won Nevada,” Trump said earlier this week at the White House. “That’s normally a Democratic vote.”

A Message of Economic Freedom

Trump’s remarks in Las Vegas not only celebrated his administration’s achievements but also underscored his focus on economic liberty. By proposing to eliminate taxes on tips, his administration is working to ensure that hardworking Americans, particularly those in industries like hospitality, keep more of their earnings without government interference.

The president’s “no tax on tips” policy, combined with his broader efforts to reduce federal overreach and promote personal responsibility, reflects a broader vision of restoring economic opportunity for all Americans.
