Two Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers were injured Friday evening while responding to an incident involving suspected theft at a shopping center in the southwest valley.
The situation unfolded around 7 p.m. near the 4100 block of Blue Diamond Road, close to Valley View Boulevard. Police were attempting to detain multiple individuals, including one person accused of stealing clothing and another believed to be the driver of a getaway vehicle.
When officers confronted the suspects in the parking lot, one of them resisted arrest. According to authorities, several others became involved, further escalating the situation. As police tried to take one individual into custody, the driver accelerated with an officer still physically engaged with the suspect. The officer was dragged as the vehicle sped through the parking lot and into the nearby street, eventually crashing into landscaping on the north side of Blue Diamond Road.
Additional police units responded, and during the response, a box truck collided with a patrol vehicle, leading to further injuries. Two officers were hospitalized—one with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and another with minor injuries. Two other individuals sustained minor injuries and were also transported for medical care.
A total of four suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. Authorities closed Blue Diamond Road between Hinson Street and Arville Street for several hours to investigate and clear the area.
