LAS VEGAS, NV — In a historic move toward regional public safety, the Las Vegas City Council has authorized a major interlocal agreement to establish a Joint Communications Facility, bringing together the valley’s largest emergency agencies under one roof.

The City of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Clark County, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) in a shared mission to modernize and synchronize the region’s emergency services.

The Red Rock Communications Center

The new facility, colloquially referred to as the Red Rock Communications Center, will be situated at the southeast corner of West Deer Springs Way and North Shaumber Road. Spanning nearly 97,000 square feet, the two-story complex is designed to blend into the natural surroundings of the northwest valley while housing state-of-the-art dispatch technology.

“This is about mission-critical redundancy,” a city spokesperson noted during the approval process. “By moving away from a single point of failure and integrating our fire, medical, and police dispatching, we are ensuring that when a citizen calls 911, the response is seamless and faster than ever before.”

Regional Impact and Funding

The facility is a response to the valley’s rapid growth and the need for “geo-diverse” communication hubs. Key benefits include:

Synchronized Dispatching: Eliminating the delay often caused by transferring calls between city and county jurisdictions.

Redundancy: Providing a fully functional backup to existing centers to ensure 911 services never go offline.

Shared Investment: The 50-year agreement outlines that LVMPD will lead construction and maintenance, with costs shared proportionally among the participating municipalities.

The project, estimated to cost approximately $42 million, is being supported by a combination of federal grants and a recently approved 911 surcharge on telephone lines, which went into effect on April 1.
