RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – Marcus Lee Lewis has been identified as the guy armed with a knife who was shot by authorities in downtown Reno.
Lewis was shot by police early Sunday morning in the neighborhood of North Virginia and East 5th streets after refusing to drop a huge knife and then leading them on a brief case.
The call began as a welfare check for a man standing in the middle of the road without shoes and armed with a huge knife. When officers approached Lewis, he fled into the downtown corridor.
Officers shot Lewis after failing to use non-lethal force owing to concerns about public safety for others in downtown, including themselves.
Lewis was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is now in critical but stable condition.
He’s accused with resisting a public officer with a hazardous weapon and wandering down the roadway. When he is released from the hospital, he is anticipated to be put into the Washoe County jail.
As part of the regional officer-involved shooting process, the Sparks Police Department has taken over the investigation.
