RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – The Bureau of Land Management and the non-profit Eastern Nevada Landscape Coalition collaborated to seed over 19,000 acres of burnt public lands in eastern Nevada.

The new seeding effort will supplement fast seedings to promote animal habitat and watershed health in wildfire-prone areas.

“Given the region’s highly variable annual and inter-annual climatic conditions, we may determine that some sites could benefit from seedings conducted over multiple years,” said Lara Derasary, ENLC’s wildland fire rehabilitation specialist.

One of the duo’s efforts will be to seed approximately 15,000 acres of land that was scorched in the 2018 Goshute Cave Fire. The fire, which was started by lightning, scorched more than 32,000 acres of BLM-managed property in White Pine and Elko counties.

The duo will also seed around 4,000 acres of land burnt in the 2020 Flat and Baldy fires in the Antelope Range region, as well as 46 acres burned in the 2018 Paine Fire in the Duck Creek Basin.
