RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe)- Following a four-day jury trial in district court, 38-year-old Pablo Montantes III of Stockton, California, was found guilty.
Earlier this month on one count of sexual assault and one count of open and gross lewdness, first offense, according to Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks.
Montantes is scheduled to be sentenced in January and faces up to life in jail with the chance of parole.
The investigation into Montantes began in March 2021, when a lady reported being sexually abused by a male relative during a weekend trip to Reno from California. The victim gave RPD officers with information and text messages about the sexual assault, and an investigation culminated in Montantes being arrested.
Following Montantes’ arrest and extradition, the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office filed official criminal charges, and the case was tried.
Deputy District (DDA) Darcy Cameron argued at trial that the defendant could not and did not have any reasonable belief that the victim consented to any of the sexual acts committed against her because of the familial relationship and complete lack of any prior sexual contact between the victim and the defendant.
