NEVADA – On Friday, a tragic tragedy occurred at the Motel 8 on East Fourth Street, putting a father in the worst possible position. The terrible death of Suleiman Alsubaihi’s son, nine, was reported to him over the weekend by authorities in Modesto, California. The boy’s mother, Ansonia Laws, 37, was arrested and is now facing open murder charges.
In an interview with ABC10 in Sacramento, Alsubaihi shared his reaction to the devastating news. “I learned all the details about how she killed him,” he painfully recounted. “No sense at all. She was saying she was trying to protect him. Not going to CPS or foster care or anything like that.”
According to Reno Police, it was Laws who dialed 911 to report her son’s unresponsiveness. The police report includes a transcription of a conversation captured on a police body camera inside Motel 8, where an officer was desperately attempting life-saving measures. In an effort to ascertain what had transpired and provide medical assistance, the officer pressed Laws for information. Her chilling response was, “I choked him.”
Subsequently, the police report revealed that the strangulation was carried out using the cord of hair clippers. In a later conversation with the police, Laws mentioned that she suffers from Asperger’s syndrome and claimed to have experienced choking herself during her youth.
Alsubaihi disclosed that he had been navigating legal obstacles in his quest to gain custody of his nine-year-old autistic son, but had thus far been unable to do so. “This is the 3rd time I’d come to get my son from Reno,” he lamented. “But this time I won’t have him.”
