NEVADA – The Nevada Assembly has successfully passed Senate Bill 131, a significant piece of legislation aimed at safeguarding doctors who perform abortions from prosecution or professional repercussions. The bill also includes various provisions to ensure comprehensive abortion-related protections.
Following its approval on Monday, Senate Bill 131 now awaits the signature of Governor Joe Lombardo to become law.
Under the bill, a health care licensing board would be prohibited from disqualifying or disciplining individuals for conducting abortions, offering counseling, or providing referral services related to the human reproductive system, as stated in the bill’s text.
Additionally, the legislation clarifies that Governor Lombardo may not issue an arrest warrant for any person charged with performing or receiving an abortion in another state if they enter Nevada.
Furthermore, it specifies that the state is not obligated to allocate any resources or participate in investigations pertaining to such acts initiated by another state, unless compelled by a court order.
