Reno Arch Goes Blue and Green to Raise Awareness About Organ Donation
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, April 1, 2023 8:09 pm
NEVADA – Donor Network West is lighting up the Reno Arch in blue and green every night at 7:30 p.m. throughout April to raise awareness about organ, eye, and tissue donation. The event aims to encourage people in northern Nevada to register as organ donors and honor donors and their families who have saved lives by donating. The City of Reno will also declare April as National Donate Life Month during the lighting. The event will feature local donor family Mitch and Wendy Hammond, who donated their daughter’s organs after her tragic death in 2019, and local kidney and pancreas transplant recipient Tom Graham as speakers. Prior to the lighting, a Hospital Heroes reception will be held at Whitney Peak Hotel, where Donor Network West President and CEO Janice Whaley will present Hospital Hero awards to local healthcare providers. Donor Network West is the only federally designated nonprofit organ procurement organization for northern Nevada and northern California.
