RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – In order to care for newborns born at 32 weeks or with illnesses that need specialist medical care, Reno’s newest hospital has formally launched its level II neonatal critical care unit.
“We are proud to have earned certification as a level II NICU and begin caring for infants that are born prematurely,” said Laura Smith, MSN, RN, RNC-NIC, NICU manager at SMC. “The expanded services provide families with reassurance that our new hospital has the advanced capabilities and highly trained staff to support infant care.”
Modern medical technology is available in the 12-bed NICU unit, which also has direct access to the labor and delivery rooms. Other amenities include Giraffe Omnibed Carestations that function as an incubator and radiant warmer for newborns, NicViewTM cameras at every bedspace for livestreaming of infants, as desired by parents, and four private rooms with noise control and isolation for the most sensitive patients.
Registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, social workers, case managers, and lactation consultants are among the staff members that provide care for NICU kids. All of them have special training to work with prematurely born children.
At the intersection of Longley Lane and Double R Boulevard in Reno, the Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center’s level II NICU facility is situated at 625 Innovation Drive.
