NEVADA – In a recent verdict, a Washoe District Court jury found Jesse Barrera, a 28-year-old resident of Sparks, guilty of molesting a young girl aged between 7 and 10, as confirmed by the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.
The presiding judge, Barry Breslow, has scheduled Jesse Barrera’s sentencing for October 24. Barrera has been convicted on four counts of sexual assault involving a child under 14 and three counts of lewdness with a child under 14.
The case unfolded when the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office received a report in 2020 alleging that Barrera had engaged in inappropriate conduct with a young girl. Subsequently, in January 2022, Barrera was arrested by law enforcement officials. During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to obtain a confession from Barrera, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputy District Attorney Amanda Sage, during the trial, asserted that Barrera’s abusive behavior had escalated over the three years during which it occurred. It was further alleged that Barrera had used both bribes and threats to maintain the victim’s silence.
The investigation into this case was conducted by a multi-disciplinary team from the Washoe County Children’s Advocacy Center. This approach ensures that cases referred to the Child Advocacy Center benefit from a range of services, including advocacy, medical and therapeutic treatment referrals, and forensic interviewing services.
