Nevada Launches Public Vote to Name Its Newest State Park Along the Carson River Corridor

CARSON CITY, NV — The has officially opened public voting to select the permanent name for Nevada’s newest state park property.

Spanning 4.5 miles along the Carson River corridor, the newly acquired state parkland protects historic 19th-century ranchlands, key segments of the Pony Express trail system, and rich cultural heritage sites across Northern Nevada.

Five Finalist Names Selected from Public Submissions

The voting phase marks the culmination of a statewide initiative launched earlier this year, during which state park officials reviewed nearly 2,500 public name submissions from Nevada residents.

Park administrators selected five finalist titles that capture the region’s geographical landscape, historical significance, and natural ecosystem:

Cottonwood Trails State Park
Crossroads Canyon State Park
Heritage Canyon State Park
River’s Edge State Park

Preserving Nevada History and Community Access

The state park property connects critical wildlife corridors and offers access for hiking, equestrian sports, kayaking, and outdoor recreation while protecting historic ranch structures dating back to the 1800s.

Public voting is hosted online through the official Department of Conservation and Natural Resources portal and will remain open through Friday, August 14, 2026. Governor Joe Lombardo is scheduled to formally unveil the winning name during a dedication ceremony later this autumn.

“Giving Nevadans a direct voice in naming our newest state park reflects our shared commitment to preserving the Silver State’s outdoor heritage,” state park officials noted in an opening statement.
