The Reno Police Department is alerting residents of an ongoing fraud in the Reno region.
Several victims have reported being duped by an adult guy, who has been described as a bigger, Middle Eastern man with a heavy accent. He approaches victims in the parking lots of stores and petrol stations.
According to police, he is normally well dressed and tells others that he is quite wealthy and from Dubai. He then convinces the victims to give him enormous sums of money in exchange for jewelry that turns out to be fake.
He has been particularly forceful in numerous cases, breaking into people’s cars and demanding to be taken to ATMs where the victims are forced to withdraw money.
He has also been accused of using his wife and little child to draw compassion from victims in order to obtain funds to return to Dubai.
Anyone who has been a victim of this is advised to register a report with RenoPD.com.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the Reno Police Department’s non-emergency line at 775-3342188. They can also contact Secret Witness at 775-322-4900, Secret Witness or by texting the tip to 847411(TIP) keyword – SW.
