LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Authorities in northern Nevada are looking into the deaths of a man and woman who were hit by an incoming train in Winnemucca only seconds after exiting a car that seemed to be stalled on the railroad tracks, according to police.
At around 2 a.m., Winnemucca police officers observed a car that seemed to be high-centered on the train rails. Sunday, the guard arms were engaged, and the train came quickly, horn roaring.
The male driver of the automobile was ordered by an officer to rapidly move away from the car to a safe distance from the rails, and he did so.
Both were killed by their injuries. No names have been made public.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is aiding with the investigation in the rural community located approximately 170 miles (273 kilometers) northeast of Reno along Interstate 80.
Anyone with information on the event is asked to call the Winnemucca police department at 775-623-6396.
