RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – From Friday evening through Saturday, there will be frequent heavy downpours, bringing 1 to 3 inches of rain to the foothills and valleys surrounding Reno and 6 to 9 inches of rain to the mountains below 9,000 feet.
On Saturday morning, our futurecast predicts widespread heavy rain. On the map, light rain is represented by green, moderate rain by orange, and heavy rain by red and purple.
Always be prepared for chain restrictions in the mountains; but, this storm will bring us largely rain. Above 9,000′, 2 to 4 feet of snow is probable.
Flooding in low-lying places is probable due to rising rivers and streams, particularly along the Carson River between Gardnerville and Markleeville.
With the possibility of snow showers and icy valley roads for your New Year’s Eve festivities, a cold front sweeps in Saturday evening. By Saturday night at 11 p.m., expect temperatures to be in the 30s with a chance of rain and snow.
Sunday afternoon clearing out with cool 30s for highs. The next week will also have a turbulent weather trend.
