NVHA: Southern Nevada Pediatric ICU Staffing Shortages Continue

LAS VEGAS – According to the Nevada Hospital Association, the state’s healthcare system is “fragile” in the face of ongoing demand for pediatric respiratory care.

On Wednesday, the NVHA presented its weekly hospital report. According to the group, Nevada’s pediatric intensive care units are still overcrowded. They stated that PICU capacity remains a challenge due to ongoing staffing concerns. Southern Nevada is on “alert” status for staffing levels, according to NVHA, one notch before “crisis” level.

However, there were some encouraging signals. According to the NVHA, flu hospitalizations have reduced while RSV and COVID-19 have stayed steady.

According to the NVHA, demand for pediatric beds has decreased, with an occupancy rate of 82%, down from 90% the previous week.
