Working to Resolve Winter Weather Outages Were NV Energy Workers Across the State

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – From Southern to Northern Nevada, NV Energy technicians have been busy restoring electricity after winter storms battered both regions of the state.
High winds and heavy rain on Thursday caused power outages for 14,000 people in Southern Nevada at one point in the afternoon, which decreased to less than 2,000 by the evening.
The Southern storms occur as 200 more crew members work to restore power to a small number of households in Northern Nevada that have had the most challenging outages, frequently in remote places or areas surrounded by challenging terrain. 70,000 people lost power around the Reno region as a result of the storm on December 31 that produced unusually heavy snowfall.
These Northern teams consist of utility employees from Utah, Oregon, and Northern California as well as deployed Southern Nevada team members. In preparation for further storms and severe weather expected over the next few days and into the next week, many crew members will stay put.
“Of course, we’re focused on the restoration here in the northwest part of the state. We still have very adequate personnel still stationed in Southern Nevada, more than 100 personnel that could respond to a whole host of potential trouble,” said Vice President Jesse Murray.
“We have had some instances where we have had emergencies on both ends of the state. We understand that sometimes we get these major events and need a whole concentration of resources very quickly to get a community back on its feet,” he said.
In case of severe weather situations, crews from neighboring states can potentially respond to Southern Nevada.
