LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Authorities say a 23-year-old man was detained on suspicion of running his father over over the weekend on a roadway in western Arizona.
Around 1 p.m., police received a report that a man had been discovered deceased. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened on Sunday, January 15, on Highway 68 in Golden Valley, roughly 18 miles west of Laughlin, Nevada.
Early in the morning, Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers responded and handed the case over to sheriff’s investigators.
A car was seen halting along the roadway on security footage from a neighboring business, which was discovered by investigators on Saturday night. Around 6:30 p.m., a person is observed walking away from the car; the car then strikes the individual and drives off.
Lester Caril, 68, was the individual hit and died, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies were called to a black SUV that had flipped over and crashed later that Saturday night. Isaiha Boregard Caril-Hill, the driver, was detained on suspicion of DUI and on a separate warrant.
“Caril-Hill was extremely agitated and threatened responders while being extricated from the vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said.
The SUV belonged to Lester Caril, Caril-father, Hill’s according to information obtained by deputies, and debris recovered at the scene of the collision on Highway 68 was consistent with damage to the SUV.
On Sunday, detectives spoke with Caril-Hill, who claimed that his father was operating the SUV when a fight broke out. According to the sheriff’s office, Lester Caril pulled over and got out of the car, and Caril-Hill said he struck his father and left before getting into the rollover accident.
First-degree murder, aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, and fleeing the scene of a fatal accident are all offenses that Caril-Hill is accused of committing. The inquiry, according to the sheriff’s office, is ongoing.
