LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Metro police have arrested a man on a hate crime charge after he reportedly made threatening remarks and used racial slurs towards a Black female employee of a dental office. According to records, Christopher Cox, a white man, was charged with hate/bias crime for the incident that took place on March 7.
The victim, who works at a dental implant center located in the southwest valley, stated that Cox became irate after learning that his treatment would cost more than he expected. He then allegedly accused her of being racist and made a series of threatening calls to the business and to her personal cell phone over the course of an hour and fifteen minutes.
Police obtained audio records of the calls where Cox reportedly used a racial slur multiple times and said he was “ready to unleash on this place.” In one of the calls, he allegedly yelled, “[expletive] [expletive] gonna [sic] die.” In addition, police were provided with a text message exchange involving a refund for the consultation where Cox reportedly said, “The [B]lack lady was an idiot and should be killed.”
Cox was arrested on March 20 at a Las Vegas casino poker room, according to police. He faces a gross misdemeanor charge, and records do not indicate whether a monetary bail was set in the case. Cox was scheduled to appear in court on March 28.
