UMC Embarks on Largest Modernization Project in 92-Year History

LAS VEGAS – The University Medical Center (UMC) in Las Vegas has announced the largest modernization project in its 92-year history. The $55 million project, funded by the UMC’s capital budget, will modernize the entire hospital campus.

According to UMC CEO Mason Van Houweling, the project had been delayed by the pandemic but is now back on track. The upgrades will include two new healing gardens, new lighting, new signage, new landscaping, and a new entrance off Shadow Lane. The parking lots will also be upgraded, and pedestrian access will be improved.

Van Houweling said the hospital would remain open during the construction with minimal disruption to patients and staff. He added that the construction should take around three years, with an estimated completion by the summer of 2025.

“We’ve been planning this project for a few years, probably about six years,” Van Houweling said. “The project is expected to be completed before UMC’s 100th birthday.”

The modernization project is a significant milestone for UMC and will transform the hospital campus into a state-of-the-art facility. Construction began on April 4th, and the UMC is looking forward to celebrating its centenary with a modernized campus.
