RENO, Nevada – A Sparks man is facing multiple charges after allegedly burglarizing a home and stealing a gun, only to be confronted by an employee at the Boys & Girls Club shortly after.
34-year-old Cristen Green was arrested on Friday, December 15th, following a string of events that began around 12:30 PM. According to the Reno Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Boys & Girls Club on East Ninth Street in Reno regarding reports of a suspicious individual.
Details outlined by the authorities state that the suspect, later identified as Green, entered the club and stole a set of car keys belonging to an employee. Fortunately, another employee noticed the theft and bravely confronted Green outside, successfully retrieving the keys.
However, Green’s alleged criminal spree didn’t end there. Shortly after the altercation at the Boys & Girls Club, officers received a separate report of a burglary at a residence on Shoshone Drive. Upon arrival, evidence at the scene linked Green to the break-in, further strengthened by video footage from the Boys & Girls Club capturing his likeness.
Investigators from the Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program (NNROP) identified Green as a potentially habitual offender due to his extensive criminal history. Subsequently, Green admitted to his involvement in both the burglary and the car key theft.
Consequently, Green faces an array of charges, including:
- Two counts of burglary
- Grand larceny of a firearm
- Owning/possessing a firearm as a prohibited person
At this time, Green remains in custody, and further details on potential bail or future court appearances are pending. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and swift action by law enforcement. The quick response from both the employee at the Boys & Girls Club and the Reno Police Department likely prevented further harm and facilitated Green’s apprehension.
