Free Skin Cancer Screenings Offered in Reno to Promote Early Detection

RENO, NV – Local dermatologist Dr. Whitney Hovenic is leading a community-wide effort to prevent skin cancer and promote early detection. On May 7th, from 4-7 p.m., she and her colleagues will offer FREE skin checks at the “Biggest Little Skin Cancer Screening” at Greater Nevada Field.

Nevada’s high sunshine exposure puts residents at increased risk for skin cancer. Dr. Hovenic emphasizes the importance of early detection, “If we find abnormal growths early, we can easily treat them.”

The event is open to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis (registration may close at 6:30 p.m.). Attendees should wear loose-fitting clothing for easy skin checks. Outdoor workers are especially encouraged to participate.

In partnership with the Nevada Cancer Coalition, Reno Aces, and the City of Reno, the event will also feature snacks, drinks, and a sun safety swag bag with sunscreen and educational resources.
