Las Vegas police arrested a teenager at his high school after he was accused of fatally shooting a marijuana dealer during a botched robbery. Lequan Harrison, whose age was not specified in court documents but is believed to be 15 or 16 at the time of the incident, faces charges of open murder and discharging a gun.
The victim, 19-year-old Angel Solis, was shot and killed in his car on October 23, 2023, in a parking lot on Boulder Highway near Hacienda Avenue. Police found a handgun and marijuana in the car, indicating a drug transaction was taking place.
A witness reported that Solis had arranged the meeting via Instagram. Two young men met Solis and the witness, and after an initial sale, they returned and opened fire on the car.
Police investigations led them to Harrison’s apartment, where they found a gun box and cleaning kit. A search of Harrison’s phone revealed searches related to the shooting. Harrison initially denied involvement but later changed his story, claiming he was present but fled when the shooting started.
Detectives found incriminating messages on Harrison’s phone, discussing the incident and getting rid of a gun. A judge issued an arrest warrant on August 27. Harrison was apprehended at his night school on September 19 by the FBI and LVMPD.
This case highlights the growing concern of teen involvement in violent crimes related to the drug trade in Las Vegas. As per Nevada law, minors accused of murder are automatically tried as adults if they are 16 years old or older.
