Las Vegas, NV – A road rage incident on the Las Vegas Strip has left a 50-year-old Uber driver, Michael Wilmot, dead, while the 24-year-old accused shooter remains free as prosecutors review the case for self-defense.
The shooting occurred just after 4 p.m. on Monday, November 25, in front of the Palazzo resort. Witnesses say Wilmot and the driver of a silver Subaru WRX were involved in a road rage dispute spanning a quarter of a mile.
According to police, Wilmot exited his car, approached the suspect’s vehicle, and banged on the driver’s side window. The shooter, a 24-year-old woman, fired a shot, striking Wilmot in the neck. Although Wilmot reportedly attempted to draw his own firearm, he collapsed before using it.
Timeline of Events
Around 3:40 p.m., 20 minutes before the shooting, a cab driver called 911 to report a reckless driver speeding and weaving through traffic near the Bellagio Hotel. The description matched the suspect’s vehicle.
At 4:05 p.m., multiple 911 calls came in from witnesses who reported seeing the shooting. “It was a road rage thing. They shot him and drove off,” one of Wilmot’s passengers told dispatchers.
Security at the Venetian-Palazzo assisted police in identifying the suspect’s license plate. Officers later located the Subaru at a residence near Washington Avenue and Torrey Pines Drive. The suspect was arrested but released as prosecutors from the Clark County District Attorney’s Office review the case as a potential act of self-defense.
Ongoing Investigation
LVMPD Homicide Lt. Jason Johansson urged drivers to remain calm amidst increasing road rage incidents. “It wasn’t worth somebody’s life,” Johansson said, emphasizing the role of patience during high-stress times like construction-related traffic delays.
The case has sparked debate about self-defense laws in Nevada. Prosecutors will determine whether charges will be filed against the shooter.
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as new information becomes available.
