Off-Duty Officer and Wife Defend Neighbor from Violent Assault in Boulder City
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, January 29, 2025 11:06 am
In a compelling instance of civic duty and personal responsibility, off-duty Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Cesar Ibarra, 48, and his wife intervened to protect a woman under attack near their Boulder City residence on January 24.
Around 9:16 a.m., Boulder City Police received a 911 call capturing sounds of a struggle. A woman’s voice reported her husband was outside their home, armed. Surveillance footage later revealed a man, identified as 45-year-old Jeremiah Boshard, assaulting a woman. Officer Ibarra identified himself as law enforcement and attempted to de-escalate the situation. Despite commands to cease, Boshard continued his aggression, even directing violence toward Officer Ibarra.
As tensions escalated, Boshard advanced toward the group, prompting both Officer Ibarra and his wife to discharge their firearms in defense. Boshard succumbed to his injuries. The assaulted woman sustained injuries, including facial bruising and signs of strangulation.
Authorities confirmed that had Boshard survived, he would have faced charges including attempted murder and battery against a protected person. This incident underscores the critical importance of community vigilance and the readiness to act in defense of others.
