Reba’s Law Goes Live: Nevada Strengthens Justice with Pet Rescue, Theft & Training Bills

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo is stepping up to protect our community’s backbone—property, safety, and even man’s best friend—with a trio of common-sense bills that speak to accountability and freedom. As part of a ceremonial signing, Governor Lombardo advanced AB503, making it unlawful to possess municipal-grade or seven-strand copper wire without proof of ownership. Under the new rules, petty possession becomes a misdemeanor, major offenses escalate to felonies carrying up to four years in prison, and those causing outages face five-year penalties . This move isn’t about overreach—it’s about personal responsibility: if you don’t own it, you shouldn’t have it.
Next comes a tougher stance on animal cruelty with AB381, known as “Reba’s Law,” named in memory of a bulldog who suffered neglect. This law raises felony penalties for harming or abandoning animals and empowers bystanders to rescue pets locked in vehicles under dangerous conditions. The message is clear: cruelty won’t be tolerated in Nevada, and compassionate citizens are given legal cover to act.
Finally, AB418—nicknamed “Daisy’s Law”—mandates training requirements for anyone professionally handling pets or operating an animal rescue facility. It’s an investment in competence, not bureaucracy: handlers must understand best practices to avoid careless or possibly dangerous situations.
Governor Lombardo’s legislative push is a model of leadership that aligns with conservative values: enforcing accountability, protecting property rights, and ensuring animal welfare through practical measures without unnecessary government intrusion. These laws take effect later this year and reflect the belief that communities flourish when law and order are upheld.
Do these laws restore trust in the government’s ability to act responsibly, or does even a streamlined approach risk overreach? We want to hear what you think.
