Las Vegas Strip Prepares for Three Days of Formula One Grand Prix Racing

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, November 18, 2025 11:37 am

The Formula 1 Heineken Las Vegas Grand Prix is returning for its third annual event this week, transforming a section of the city’s main thoroughfare, the Las Vegas Strip, into a temporary street circuit. The three-day motorsports event, scheduled from Thursday, November 20, to Saturday, November 22, 2025, will feature on-track racing action, associated entertainment events, and subsequent road closures throughout the resort corridor. The 6.201-kilometer, 17-turn circuit is known for its high-speed sections, including a long straight down the Strip itself, requiring drivers to manage their tires in the cool night temperatures—a challenge addressed this year by scheduling the sessions two hours earlier than in previous years. Key streets like Las Vegas Boulevard, Koval Lane, and Harmon and Sands avenues will experience rolling closures during the week as the circuit transitions between “warm track” (partial restrictions for infrastructure) and “hot track” (full closure for racing activity). The full closure for the Grand Prix race on Saturday night will begin in the afternoon, with roads scheduled to fully reopen in the early hours of Sunday. The event remains a high-profile destination on the Formula 1 calendar, featuring the main Grand Prix race and support races from the F1 Academy series. Security operations have been substantial, involving multiple agencies, including the FBI, which has coordinated security training and plans to operate several command posts to ensure public safety throughout the weekend.
