Law enforcement blocked access to the entrance of an apartment complex in southeast Las Vegas for much of Sunday afternoon and evening while the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (Metro) investigated a shooting involving one of its officers. According to Metro, reports arrived just before midday for an attempted carjacking near Indian River Drive at Decatur Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, during which an individual reportedly threatened someone with a knife. Upon arrival, officers encountered the man near the complex entrance and attempted to speak with him. When the suspect did not comply, a physical confrontation occurred and the individual at one point pulled out what was believed to be a knife toward the officers. One officer then fired at the suspect, who was taken to a hospital and is currently in critical condition. No Metro officers were injured. The incident marked the fifth shooting involving a Metro officer this year. The investigation remains ongoing, and the identity of the officer involved will be released within 48 hours in accordance with department policy.
