Titus and Lee Shield Beijing: Nevada Democrats Vote to Keep Parents in the Dark on CCP Influence in Schools

Nevada’s parents were handed a stunning reminder this week of just how far their representatives in Congress are willing to go to keep them in the dark.

Democrat Reps. Dina Titus and Susie Lee voted against legislation requiring K-12 schools to notify parents when foreign governments, including hostile adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), inject money, curriculum, programming, or even personnel into American classrooms. The bill, the Transparency in Reporting Adversarial Contributions to Education Act, is designed to do something pretty basic: tell parents who’s influencing their kids’ education.

Apparently, that was a bridge too far for Nevada’s Democratic delegation.

Under the legislation, school districts would have been required to alert parents of any financial or material ties to foreign governments, disclose foreign-funded curriculum, and ensure transparency around programs connected to entities like China’s “cultural partnerships,” long criticized as Trojan horses for communist propaganda.

Republicans say the bill is about protecting American students from foreign interference. Democrats like Titus and Lee say… nothing that explains why parents shouldn’t know when Beijing is poking around their local school district.

For parents across Nevada, the vote raises obvious questions:

Why should a foreign government, especially one openly hostile to the United States, have any undisclosed influence over their children’s education? And why are Nevada’s representatives working to keep that information hidden?

NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez didn’t mince words, “Democrat Dina Titus and Susie Lee are actively blocking parents from knowing when the Chinese Communist Party buys influence in their child’s classroom. Titus and Lee made it clear their priorities are secrecy and Beijing, not transparency and Nevada parents.”

House Republicans argue the stakes are too high to play coy. As documented in multiple federal reports, CCP-backed “cultural exchange” programs and Confucius Classroom initiatives have quietly funneled resources into U.S. schools for years, programs American intelligence agencies warn are designed to shape attitudes toward China and undermine U.S. values.

Republicans say the solution is sunlight. Democrats, at least Nevada’s, apparently prefer shadows.

With school transparency already a top concern for Nevada parents, from curriculum fights to classroom safety, Titus, and Lee’s vote plants them squarely on the side of keeping parents uninformed about foreign influence.

The message from Washington is clear: Republicans want transparency. Nevada Democrats want parents kept guessing.

And Beijing? Well, the CCP is no doubt thrilled to have friends in places like Dina Titus and Susie Lee.
