Nevada Wins Court Fight Over Federal Emergency Grant Requirements

A federal court has ruled in favor of Nevada and several other states in a legal dispute involving the release of federal emergency management grants, according to an announcement from Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford.

The ruling blocks the Trump administration from attaching conditions the court found to be unlawful to two Federal Emergency Management Agency grant programs. The decision allows the affected states to receive the emergency funding without complying with the disputed requirements.

Attorney General Ford said the court order ensures that federal emergency funds can be distributed as intended by Congress and prevents the federal government from withholding grants based on conditions not authorized under federal law.

The case involved multiple states that challenged the administration’s authority to impose additional requirements on FEMA grants. The court agreed with the states’ argument, concluding that the conditions exceeded the administration’s legal authority.

The ruling clears the way for Nevada and the other states involved to access the emergency funding while the broader legal dispute continues.
