Rep. Mark Amodei has announced that he has been assigned to serve in the Natural Resources Committee and will continue serving as the Vice Chair on the Appropriations Interior Subcommittee.

The House Committee on Natural Resources considers legislation about American energy production, mineral lands and mining, fisheries and wildlife, public lands, oceans, Native Americans, irrigation and reclamation. The Committee is divided into five subcommittees: Energy and Mineral Resources, Federal Lands, Oversight and Investigations, Indian Insular Affairs, and Water, Wildlife and Fisheries.

Congressman Amodei is the sole Republican of the Nevada delegation and has served on the served on the House Natural Resources Committee in the 112th and 113th Congress, helping pass Nevada lands bills and introducing the National Strategic and Critical Mineral Production Act. He has consistently opposed efforts by both the Obama and Biden administration to restrict access to federal lands. Nevada is the most federally owned state in the nation and therefore most impacted by any actions made by the Department of Interior.

Rep. Amodei issued the following statement after being granted a waiver by House Leadership to serve not only on the House Committee on Appropriations, but also on the House Committee on Natural Resources:

“Given Nevada’s wealth of natural resources and the fact that 85% of the state is federally owned, it’s imperative for Nevada to have strong representation on the Natural Resources Committee,” said Rep. Mark Amodei. “Securing a waiver from leadership is no easy task, especially when you are chairing a key Appropriations Subcommittee, such as Homeland Security.
