Governor Joe Lombardo has aligned with 25 Republican governors to unite behind President Trump’s mass deportation policy which primarily targets illegal immigrants who pose a threat to American communities and national security.
In a joint statement, the governors expressed their commitment to “deport dangerous criminals, gang members, and terrorists who are in the country illegally.”
As Republican governors, we stand united in support of President Donald Trump’s unwavering commitment to make America safe again by addressing the illegal immigration crisis and deporting illegal immigrants who pose a threat to our communities and national security.
When the Biden Administration refused to secure our borders and uphold the rule of law, it was Republican governors who took action. We mobilized state resources, including law enforcement and National Guard units, to protect Americans from disastrous open border policies and prevent illegal immigration from overwhelming our country.
We are proud to welcome President Trump back to the White House, a leader who has consistently put America first. His leadership is exactly what our nation needs to restore law and order at the border, and we are eager to work alongside his Administration to tackle the critical challenges facing our nation.
Republican governors remain fully committed to supporting the Trump Administration’s efforts to deport dangerous criminals, gang members, and terrorists who are in this country illegally. We understand the direct threat these criminal illegal immigrants pose to public safety and our national security, and we will do everything in our power to assist in removing them from our communities.
Together, we will continue to defend the American people, uphold the rule of law, and ensure our nation remains safe and secure for future generations. We stand ready to utilize every tool at our disposal—whether through state law enforcement or the National Guard—to support President Trump in this vital mission.
The time for action is now. Together, we will make America safe again.
During the Western Governors Association Conference earlier this week, Governor Lombardo said “the devil is in the details” when asked if he would employ the National Guard to assist in the deportation of criminal illegal aliens.
The Nevada Current reported:
Lombardo said “we have to figure out what is the better need” for the state’s National Guard and “whether the mission takes priority within the state or to the federal picture or the federal windows, that’s the best way we can answer.”
“It’s too soon to opine on the nebulous or the unknown,” Lombardo said Monday when asked about Trump’s proposal. “A lot of things, I know, get promised during campaigns, and then the practicality of implementing those comes to bear.”
Data from 2022, according to Pew Research, reveals that Nevada is home to approximately 200,000 illegal immigrants primarily from Mexico, the Philippines, and El Salvador. Since 2020, there has been a surge in illegal crossings. Therefore, these numbers may not account for the Biden administration’s release of an estimated 2.5 million illegal immigrants into the interior of the U.S. and an estimated 1.6 million additional illegal immigrants crossing the border without apprehension (“got-aways”).
Standing as a potential bulwark against President Trump and Governor Lombardo is Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford who has vowed to protect undocumented immigrants from deportation.
Last month, Ford warned: “We will be a bulwark against any effort to impose unconstitutional mandates, override our system of checks and balances, or intrude upon the rights of any Nevada resident…There is no one way to be a Nevadan. The residents of our great state –whether they’ve been here for 3 weeks or are third- generation Nevadans.”
In a New York Times/Siena College poll conducted in October, 57 percent of voters said they supported deporting immigrants who were living in the country illegally.
