Horsford’s Shutdown Splurge on Donor Dimes, While Nevadans Paid the Price

As Washington ground to a halt during the government shutdown, Steven Horsford’s campaign was anything but shut down. It was splurging.

While Nevadans dealt with uncertainty and disruption he voted for, Horsford’s campaign burned through more than $15,000 on chartered coach buses and nearly $9,400 on hotels stretching from Las Vegas to New York City, San Francisco, Portland, and Washington. Boutique hotels. Big city stops. Luxury stays. All while the federal government was closed and families were told to brace for impact due to his vote.

That spending spree came as Horsford hauled in $539,772.29 in the final quarter of 2025. The catch is where the money came from. Only $23,093 of it came from Nevada. Just 11.8 percent. Fewer than 100 in state donors bothered to write checks.

The rest came flooding in from outside the Silver State. A staggering 88.2 percent of Horsford’s cash was out of state money. California alone accounted for more than $82,000. New York chipped in over $27,000. Washington DC, Massachusetts, Maryland, and even Kentucky all piled on.

Nevada voters were an afterthought.

The special interest PACs were right there alongside the coastal donors. End Citizens United dropped money to push its left-wing agenda. The New Democrat Coalition Action Fund sent $12,500 to keep Horsford locked into Washington orthodoxy. Giffords added cash from the gun control lobby. The message was clear. Horsford’s campaign is funded by national Democrats and activist groups, not by the people he claims to represent.

And while Nevadans watched Washington dysfunction drag on, Horsford’s campaign checked into high end hotels and chartered buses around the country.

This is the Steven Horsford model. Take California cash. Take DC PAC money. Spend freely. Then fly home and pretend to be rooted in Nevada.

Horsford’s shutdown splurge says more than any campaign speech ever could. When it mattered most, he was riding luxury buses on donor dimes while Nevada got shut out.
