Nevada Democrats Admit Iran Is a Terror State Then Vote to Tie America’s Hands

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 7, 2026 6:00 am

Nevada Democrats Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford delivered a stunning contradiction on Capitol Hill.

All three voted to reaffirm that Iran is the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism. Then they turned around and voted to limit the President’s ability to take military action against that same regime.

In other words, they acknowledged the threat and then voted to weaken America’s ability to confront it.

The measure aimed to restrict President Donald J. Trump’s authority to take military action against Iran without additional congressional approval, even as tensions escalate following U.S. strikes that eliminated top Iranian leadership figures and crippled key elements of the regime’s military command.

At the same time, the House passed language reaffirming what intelligence agencies and national security experts have said for years. Iran remains the leading state sponsor of terrorism in the world.

That includes funding Hezbollah, arming militant groups across the Middle East, and backing networks responsible for attacks that have killed Americans for decades.

Which raises the obvious question.

If Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism on the planet, why would lawmakers vote to limit America’s ability to confront it?

Titus, Lee, and Horsford tried to split the difference. Acknowledge the threat. Restrict the response.

Critics say that logic collapses under scrutiny.

Republicans argue the vote exposes a broader pattern inside the Democratic Party where leaders publicly condemn hostile regimes but oppose the tools needed to deter them.

That contradiction becomes especially stark during moments of heightened national security tension, when American intelligence agencies warn about potential retaliation from Iranian forces or proxy groups.

Instead of reinforcing deterrence, Nevada’s Democrat delegation voted to restrict it.

NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez said the votes reveal a dangerous double standard.

“Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford’s vote exposes a dangerous double standard. They admit that Iran is the leading sponsor of terrorism, yet still voted to tie President Trump’s hands and weaken America’s ability to defend itself. Nevadans deserve leaders who will stand up and keep them safe against terrorist regimes, not politicians playing partisan games with national security.”

The debate reflects a broader divide in Washington.

One side argues that confronting terror states requires decisive presidential authority and the credible threat of force. The other increasingly pushes for restrictions that limit executive action even when hostile regimes escalate aggression.

For Nevada voters watching the debate unfold, the contradiction is difficult to miss.

Their representatives acknowledged Iran as the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism.

Then voted to weaken America’s ability to stop it.
