Nevada Democrats Vote to Keep the Government Shut Down and Block Millions in Funding for Nevada

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, November 21, 2025 6:00 am

Last week, after 43 brutal days of the longest government shutdown in American history, Congress finally moved to reopen the government and put an end to the chaos that hammered families from Las Vegas to Elko. Workers went without pay. Military families braced for missed checks. Flights were grounded. Small businesses were stuck in limbo. And across the country, unions – yes, unions– were practically begging Democrats to knock it off.

But even as the Senate and House approved a bipartisan funding deal to end the pain, Nevada’s own Democrat Congressional delegation Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford chose to dig in their heels and vote AGAINST reopening the government.

It was a revealing moment. After spending six weeks holding Americans hostage in a nasty bid for political “leverage,” House Democrats finally backed down. Yet Nevada’s trio stood proudly with the most extreme wing of their party, choosing ideological theatrics over the workers they claim to champion.

For 43 days, the shutdown, manufactured and prolonged by House Democrats, inflicted real-world consequences.  And what did Nevadans get in return for all that suffering? Nothing. Not a single concession. Not a single meaningful policy win. Just pain, paralysis, and a political stunt that collapsed under its own weight.

Then came the kicker.

When Congress voted to pass the funding bill that would both reopen the government and deliver $6,784,000 in critical funding for Nevada, Titus, Lee, and Horsford didn’t just vote no, they doubled down. They voted against money for their own state.

That’s not leadership. That’s not representation. That’s not putting Nevada first.

That’s putting the far-left base first, no matter who gets hurt.

“Dina Titus, Susie Lee, Steven Horsford and the Democrat Party’s government shutdown was nothing more than a disgusting and shameless display of just how far they will go to appease their radical socialist base,” said NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez. “Nevada voters won’t forget it.”

Nevadans showed up. They worked. They sacrificed. Their representatives did none of the above and now they’ll have to answer for it.
