Abused 7-Year-Old Pit Bull Dog Found in Las Vegas Passes Away
LAS VEGAS – Althea, the 7-year-old pit bull that was found on the verge of death and spent weeks in veterinary care, has died.
Althea was discovered on the streets of Las Vegas in November, abandoned and weighing only 23 pounds. She was transported to The Animal Foundation, and immediately after her arrival, employees contacted Vegas Pet Rescue Project (VPRP) for assistance.
“It’s unfathomable that this could happen,” Tina Hayes, a VPRP volunteer, told 8 News Now.
Hayes was with Althea almost every day as she was healing. While the pit bull’s odds of survival were limited, Althea did show signs of progress along the way. During her rehabilitation, however, she acquired pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital, where she eventually died.
VPRP has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Althea’s abusers. An anonymous contributor has since given another $9,000 to the award. According to an RPRP Facebook post, the reward is now worth up to $20,000.
Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of Althea’s abusers is encouraged to contact Justice4Althea@gmail.com.
