The U.S. Marshals Service has confirmed the death of Alan Buitre, a 61-year-old child sexual predator who fled to the Philippines. Buitre was wanted for violating the terms of his supervised release after being convicted of possessing child pornography.

Buitre’s case gained public attention when the U.S. Marshals sought help in locating him during a “Manhunt Monday” segment that aired on May 6. Authorities believed he was either in Las Vegas or the Philippines at the time.

According to Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Ray Venegas, a tip received after the broadcast indicated that Buitre had died in the Philippines last year. This information was later verified, confirming that Buitre succumbed to alcohol-related complications.

Court records reveal that Buitre was found in possession of over 600 images depicting child sexual abuse, some of which were classified as sadistic or masochistic and included children under the age of 12. Following his conviction, he was sentenced to five years in prison and subjected to lifetime supervision.

Despite the conditions of his release, Buitre violated his probation by admitting to watching adult pornography on two occasions. He ceased communication with his probation officer in 2018, prompting the U.S. Marshals to initiate a manhunt.

The confirmation of Buitre’s death closes a chapter on a fugitive who evaded justice but ultimately could not escape his fate.
