Clark County Reports Increase In Flu Hospitalizations
LAS VEGAS – Flu hospitalizations in Clark County have more than doubled in the last week.
According to the Southern Nevada Weekly Influenza Surveillance Snapshot, influenza-related hospitalizations jumped from 67 to 145 in one week. There have been no further deaths, bringing the total for the 2022-2023 influenza season to two. The most recent update from the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) covered instances recorded up to November 26.
According to SNHD, the percentage of emergency room and urgent care clinic visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) increased from 8% to 10% in week 47.
Children 0-17 years old accounted for 58% of ER and urgent care visits for ILI, a 4% reduction from the previous week.
Seasonal flu activity is high and increasing across the country. According to SNHD, the degree of respiratory illness activity in Nevada has risen from “high” to “very high.”
