A shocking incident has come to light in the Clark County School District as one of its employees, Joshua Herrera, was arrested on March 18. Facing serious allegations, Herrera is charged with one count of contacting a minor by a person of authority for the purposes of sex and two counts of a school employee engaging in sexual conduct with a pupil aged 16 or older.
Herrera’s arrest took place on Monday, and despite an initial court appearance scheduled for March 19 being canceled, the suspect is currently out on bond. The arrest stems from Herrera’s role as a Student Success Advocate within CCSD, following previous positions as a campus security monitor and an office specialist from 2019 to 2023.
According to an arrest report, Herrera allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a student he encountered at the school. The troubling situation came to the attention of authorities when a school counselor reported the matter to campus police on March 6, leading to LVMPD police being informed on March 7.
Police investigations revealed that Herrera exchanged around 1,000 text messages with the student in an attempt to entice her away from parental and school supervision for romantic and sexual purposes. Despite being under scrutiny by school officials and law enforcement, Herrera persistently called and texted the student numerous times.
The student cooperated with authorities by allowing them to examine her phone and call logs, disclosing that Herrera even visited her residence after obtaining her address through an online platform. In a disturbing turn of events, the juvenile mentioned that Herrera sought permission from her mother to date her, to which the mother vehemently objected.
Further details from the police report indicate that Herrera continued his advances by bringing the student lunch, purchasing items for her, and even providing his debit card. The student also revealed a distressing incident of a sexual nature that occurred in Herrera’s vehicle.
Joshua Herrera is set to appear in Clark County Justice Court on April 25 to address these grave allegations. The community and authorities alike are deeply concerned about this distressing situation and are committed to ensuring justice is served.
