A dramatic rescue unfolded Friday afternoon in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area after a climber became lost and sustained critical injuries.

According to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue (LVFR), their Technical Rescue Team was called to the scene after reports of a stranded climber on the White Rock Trail within the Red Rock Loop.

“The situation involved a climber located approximately 200 feet up a vertical rock wall,” stated an LVFR spokesperson in a social media post.

A meticulous search ensued, lasting over six hours before the team successfully located the injured climber.

“Due to the severity of the individual’s injuries, the rescue transitioned to the care of LVMPD Search and Rescue,” the spokesperson explained.

A medical helicopter was then utilized to swiftly transport the climber to a nearby hospital for critical medical attention.

“Rescuing individuals from precarious situations like this requires immense effort,” LVFR emphasized in the post. “Our brave team members must first reach the stranded person, stabilize their condition, and then safely transport them to a location where medical assistance is readily available.”

This incident highlights the inherent risks associated with technical rock climbing. LVFR urges anyone venturing into challenging terrain to be properly equipped, exercise caution, and inform others of their planned route and estimated return time.
