LAS VEGAS, NV — A decorated Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department patrol officer was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on multiple felony charges, including commercial burglary and perjury, the department confirmed.

The arrest marks a sharp reversal for an officer celebrated within the agency just three years prior. Chavez was named a recipient of LVMPD’s Unit Medal of Valor during the department’s 2023 “Best of the Badge” ceremony for his actions during an armed hostage crisis inside a crowded shopping center, where an armed suspect used a civilian as a human shield.
