In the early hours of Monday, a semi-truck collided with an abandoned vehicle on I-15 near Moapa, Nevada, leading to a significant fuel spill and highway closure. The incident occurred just after 7:30 a.m. at mile marker 106 in the northbound lanes. The semi-truck overturned upon impact, leaking over 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the spill necessitated the closure of northbound lanes, with traffic diverted at mile markers 64 and 93. Hazmat crews were dispatched to manage the cleanup, and the road closure was extended until 4 p.m.
This event underscores the importance of maintaining our infrastructure and ensuring that disabled vehicles are promptly removed from highways to prevent such hazardous situations.
