Dust Advisory Issued for Clark County as Strong Winds Sweep Through Valley

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 4, 2026 1:33 pm

Clark County officials have issued a dust advisory for Thursday as a weather front brings strong winds and significant gusts to the Las Vegas Valley. The National Weather Service expects sustained northwest winds between 20 and 30 mph, with potential gusts reaching up to 45 mph throughout the day. The advisory is in effect as the valley transitions from an unseasonably warm February into a more volatile spring weather pattern. Forecasters warned that the high winds could kick up loose soil and dust, particularly in construction areas and near dry lakebeds, leading to reduced visibility for motorists.

In addition to dust concerns, the weather service noted that these wind speeds are capable of blowing around unsecured outdoor objects and could result in downed tree limbs or isolated power interruptions. Drivers of high-profile vehicles, such as trucks and SUVs, are urged to exercise extra caution on major highways like I-15 and US-95, where crosswinds may be more intense. The wind advisory is expected to remain in place through Thursday evening, with conditions likely to calm by Friday morning. Local health officials also advised individuals with respiratory sensitivities to stay indoors during the peak of the wind event to avoid inhaling airborne particulates.
