In a concerning development within the Clark County School District (CCSD), 33-year-old elementary school teacher Manuel Ayala-Tovar has been arrested on two counts of lewdness with a child. The CCSD Police Department initiated an investigation at Manuel J. Cortez Elementary School in November 2024, leading to Ayala-Tovar’s arrest on March 20, 2025. Employed by the district since September 2022, Ayala-Tovar had been assigned to home duty since the investigation commenced, in accordance with the district’s agreement with the bargaining unit. He is currently booked at the Clark County Detention Center.
This incident raises critical questions about the safety and well-being of our children in public schools. Are current hiring practices and background checks sufficient to protect our students? How can parents ensure their children are safe when attending school? It’s imperative that we, as a community, demand accountability and transparency from our educational institutions to safeguard our children’s futures.
