Family Demands Answers After Fatal Police Shooting in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV – The family of Brandon Durham, a 43-year-old man who was fatally shot by a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officer during a home invasion, is demanding answers and accountability.

On November 12, 2023, Durham called 911 to report a home invasion in progress at his residence. He informed the dispatcher that he was armed and had locked himself in the bathroom with his 15-year-old daughter.

Responding officers, including Officer Alexander Bookman, encountered a chaotic scene upon arrival. Body-worn camera footage released by the LVMPD shows Officer Bookman yelling “drop the knife” before firing multiple shots at Durham, who was struggling with another individual, Alejandra Boudreaux.

Durham’s family disputes the police narrative, claiming that no knife was present during the incident. They argue that the officer’s actions were excessive and unjustified, leading to Durham’s tragic death.

The family’s attorney, David Chesnoff, emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in police shootings. He stated that the family is seeking a thorough investigation into the incident to determine whether the officer’s use of force was appropriate.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is currently conducting an internal investigation into the shooting. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office will review the case to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
